Question:

It is commonly known that age, physical exertion and mental state can affect human pulse. Some researches claim that environmental factors, such as temperature, humidity and noise can also have an influence on our pulse.

Our inquiry question: How does light intensity affect our pulse?

While practicing Yoga the instructor asks you to close your eyes and he/she dim out the light in the room, helping our body to relax.

Likewise, before we go to sleep, we turn off the light in our bed -room, we relax and then fall asleep.

Thus, we can expect that when light intensity increases, we are less relaxed and our pulse increases accordingly.

In order to verify our hypothesis we ask you to conduct the following experiment.

Between 08:00 am to 16:00 pm (choose one of your regular days, not a stressful one) follow the following instructions:

1. Enter a dark room and measure light intensity using the following Light meter application. That value will be noted as A1.

In order to measure the intensity of light in the room, please download  this application for android . https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keuwl.lightmeter for apple : https://appsto.re/il/Rw0VN.i

2.  Sit in the dark room for 3 minutes and then measure your pulse, first manually and immediately after using the following Heart rate plus  application. The manual value will be noted as B1 and the application- value will be noted as C1.

3. Turn on the lights and open the shades (try to avoid excessive noise) and measure light intensity using Light meter application. That value will be noted as A2.

4. Sit down in the bright room for another 3 minutes and then measure your pulse, first manually and immediately after using the Heat rate plus application. The manual value will be noted as B2 and the application- value will be noted as C2.
