This is the first of the five virtual field trip modules. This virtual trip introduces and demonstrates the field methods used in the following virtual field trips. These methods are also commonly used field methods for studying modern sedimentology.

In addition to demonstrating the field methods, schemes of planning and preparing for the field based research are also introduced.
