Acrtic fox have very low surface area to volume ratio and less heat can escape from the fox body

Compared to other species of fox, arctic foxes have proportionally shorter legs, shorter necks and smaller ears. This means that there is more surface area to lose heat from compared to more slender southern foxes.

Hello Nazek,

I'll start by referring to the question according to the directions we were given in assignment 3:

- The background is missing and also the link to the video from BLOSSOMS that the question is based on.

- There is no feedback for any of the possible answers, including for the correct one.

In more depth I want to share some of my thoughts with you as I was watching the animation: The content of the video was not well structured, and if I were not familiar with the subject I probably would have gotten a bit confused. Also you are raising a few questions in the video that remain without answers, like: "…have smaller ears - why?", "…this means they are unable to lose heat through sweating - why?"

As for the main question which is a multiple-choice, it's not very well phrased because you are asking the student to add information, something that is not possible in this kind of question.

I suggest explaining the concept of adaptation in general and the concept of surface area to volume ratio in a short paragraph in the introduction. Then in the animation start by showing the picture of the two foxes (without the name of the species), letting the viewer know that they are from the same family but they differ from each other because of the different environments they live in. Then show the two different environments, desert and the North pole, with their different characteristics, and only then introduce the question, which I would phrase as follows: Which one of the foxes lives in which environment, and why?
